Getting ready for Last Leg

In one week we are off on the last leg of the repeat of Daddy's trip. While we have had to miss some countries which have been having political issues, For the most part we have been true to the concept: repeat the journey using similar transportation modes. While we had to get to various starting points using airplanes, we have used primarily ships, trains and cars once we began that part of the journey.

Now we are off fo Japan where we will arrive at the same time as ' the boys' - Springtime - and cherry blossoms. Both Bob and I have been reading voraciously about the country and its customs, and we only can hope that we will not cause too much embarassment . One cannot blow ones nose in public; no gifts are given in groups of four; robes are to be put on carefully so as not to symbolize death; shoes are not to be worn indoors....anywhere, but especially temples or in any place where one has to step up to meet an entry. No public displays of affection, no loud voices, no insulting people and always try and save face.

We will be on our own, discovering this country except in Kyoto where we've hired a guide. It will our longest visit in any of the countries, and perhaps the most daunting. But the adventuresome spirit in us is up to the challenge - we think. And our prize at the end is a wonderful 15 day cruise from Tokyo Bay to Los Angeles on a very elegant ship.

And we're off
